Built at Flamborough in 1934 for John Robert Stephenson by Hargrave (Arg) Potter Hopewood, she was one of the first motor cobles to be built by Hopwood to have a steamed tunnel to accommodate the and will be available and is 30 feet in length and is thought to be the only Flamborough coble built by Hopwood that has survived.
Fishing from Flamborough and later Bridlington she is a typical motor/sailer of her time and orginally fitted with a Kelvin 12/14 petrol/parafin engine. She was brought back to Bridlington from the south coast in 2007 by George Traves MBE, a complete restoration/rebuild was undertaken over a two year period when she was additionally rigged for sailing. She was owned by George's son for a number of years before being sold on to the current owners Ian and Julie Coultas in 2025.
Imperialist is currently undergoing restoration overseen by John Clarkson and the team in the BSCPS Beck Hill Workshop and will be available to sail in Bridlington Bay once restoration work is complete.
